AT A time when energy bills are soaring, and likely to go higher still in October when the price cap increases, Ofgem, Britain’s energy regulator, has told multiple suppliers they must take urgent action after finding “severe weaknesses” in handling customers’ direct debits.
Ofgem found a series of failings which it says could lead to direct debits being set incorrectly, or not being reviewed regularly. This leads in many cases to either large credit balances or debt, depending on whether the customer is under or overpaying.
Its review
