rowing up on East Devon’s Jurassic Coast and now living in Exeter, I’ve been lucky to have the seaside as a weekly, sometimes daily, part of my life – to surf, swim, paddleboard, clear my head. The sea is, I had to connect into the creative side of my brain and I felt I achieved that most when I was by the sea. Bigbury-on-Sea and Burgh Island in Bigbury Bay is my current favourite day out. On the Jurassic Coast, the red sandstone cliffs make the seawater a little bit murky at times but on the South Devon coast the sea has incredible clarity and a beautiful blue colour, with pale sands beneath. It feels like a little oasis right on my doorstep.
