QUEEN KOKO

From the day she was born in 1971, Koko the gorilla waS always the centre of attention. She and her mother Jackie lived in San Francisco Zoo, and hundreds of humans came to see her every day!

The visitors thought that Koko was very cute and funny. They made lots of strange human mouth-sounds white they stared at her!

When she was still very young, Koko got ill. She had to stay in the zoo hospital until she got better, and was then moved into a special nursery in the Children's Zoo. The kind humans who worked there often hugged her and played with her. Koko loved this, of course!

One day, a new human with Long yellow fur on her head came to visit. Koko did not recognise
