All England September Tour week two, Hickstead, West Sussex

THE big guns came out to take advantage of their final chance to jump at Hickstead this season, with Ben Maher bringing the grey mare Enjoy CKZ for a “confidence-building” trip that ended with a victory in the Breen Equestrian All England grand prix.

Last year’s winner Nicole Lockhead Anderson had set a grand target with Tom Williams’s quick mare Miss Aragona PS, but Ben managed to find 0.06sec from his advantageous penultimate draw.

Only Ben’s Tokyo team-mate Holly Smith, now jumping for Poden Farms, lay between him and victory, but she lowered a rail with Don Vito II.
