Enter the judges

After Joshua led the Israelites into Canaan, a succession of leaders arose in Israel, over the next centuries, until the monarchy was established with King Saul. The book of Judges covers roughly 350 years of this history of leaders known as “judges” (2:16) or “deliverers” (3:9).
