Sold with the ride

AS the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) qualifying season progresses, you can guarantee that an increasing number of adverts headed “SOLD WITH THE HOYS RIDE” will pop up among Horse & Hound’s classifieds and elsewhere.

Unsurprisingly, the monetary value of a HOYS-qualified horse or pony skyrockets by a few thousand, especially if the seller offers the purchaser the opportunity to ride at the prestigious final.

Producing a prospect to HOYS level and moving it on before the final is a viable – and lucrative – business plan for many experienced show riders, both full-time
