Darren Hayes is so happy – and it shows. Dialling in from Los Angeles, where he lives with his husband of almost two decades, screenwriter Richard Cullen, the 50-year-old is positively radiant. He hasn’t aged a day since Savage Garden released their debut album 25 years ago, and he’s glad to hear it. “You know, I’m just going to take that compliment because everyone’s been saying it lately,” he laughed. “Maybe it happens when you’re happy, because it’s coming from the inside.”
Hayes has a lot to be happy about. After taking a decade-long break from music, he’s back with a new album, Homosexual, and it can only be described as deep, fun, catchy, and very ’80s, which is exactly what he was going for.
