92NY Unterberg Poetry Center

DISCOVERY POETRY CONTEST

Four prizes of $500 each and publication in Paris Review Daily are given annually for a group of poems. Winners also receive lodging and travel expenses to give a reading at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Poets who have not yet published a full-length poetry collection are eligible. Timothy Donnelly and Omotara James will serve as the preliminary judges; Kaveh Akbar, Tracie Morris, and Simone White will serve as the final judges. Using only the online submission system, submit a manuscript of up to 10 pages, including at least two unpublished poems and two poems that are one page or shorter in length, with a $15 entry fee by January 13, 2023. African Poetry Book Fund

SILLERMAN FIRST BOOK PRIZE FOR AFRICAN POETRY

A prize of $1,000 and publication by University of Nebraska Press in conjunction with Amalion Press is given annually for a debut poetry collection by an African poet. Writers who were born in Africa, are African nationals or residents, or whose parents are African are eligible. The African Poetry Book Fund editorial board will judge. W.Y. BOYD LITERARY AWARD

A prize of $5,000 is given annually for a novel published in the current year that is set in a period when the United States was at war. Asheville Poetry Review

WILLIAM MATTHEWS POETRY PRIZE

A prize of $1,000 and publication in Asheville Poetry Review is given annually for a single poem. The winner is also invited to give a reading at Malaprop’s Bookstore in Asheville, North Carolina. Diane Seuss will judge. Using only the online submission system, submit up to three poems of any length with a $20 entry fee by January 15, 2023. All entries are considered for publication. Autumn House Press

RISING WRITER PRIZE

A prize of $1,000 and publication by Autumn House Press is given in alternating years for a debut work of poetry or fiction. The 2023 prize will be given for fiction. The winner will also receive a $500 grant for travel and book promotion. Matt Bell will judge. Submit a novel, novella, or story collection of 100 to 200 pages with a $30 entry fee by November 30.
