FLYING THE (RED) FLAG

The Fiesta Supersport was produced for only a year or so, but despite being quickly overshadowed by the more powerful XR2, its popularity today is stronger than ever. Fortunately, Richard Meehan had the foresight to begin the restoration of his Sunburst Red example back in the 1990s, when parts you could only dream of finding now were still available.

Richard’s story begins back in 1994, a time when Mk1 Fiestas were still regarded as throwaway cars often to be found advertised in the under £500 section of your local rag. The sportier models, meanwhile, had already gained a following. “I’d always been a huge fan of the Supersport, I owned a really nice example in black at the time, but sadly it was stolen and never recovered,” Richard recalls. “I also had a similar car in white, but it wasn’t as nice as the one
