Daylilies

An outstanding, and impressive display of daylilies, Hemerocallis fulva, at my cottage back door led me to explore this plant. Hemerocallis comes from the Greek words “hemera”, meaning day, and “kalos”, which means beauty.

They are herbaceous perennials native to eastern Asia, and are used in traditional Chinese herbal medicine. With different parts of this plant to harvest in almost every season of the year, daylilies are a versatile and productive addition to your garden. True to their name, a daylily flower lasts for about one day, and I often enjoy a cut bloom or two to decorate my cottage interior without feeling tender about picking
