LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT

When you begin writing a feature car, usually there’s single theme to concentrate on after you get the history from the owner about the build. But Adam McLaren and his stunning Mk1 Escort have a story unlike any other we’ve come across.

First of all, it was a Great Unveiling car at this year’s Classic Ford Show, which is a talking point in itself. Then there’s the fact Adam has owned the car for 25 years and it’s been off the road for nearly the entire time, until being finished for the big reveal. On top of that, the rare green paint is the original colour and only a handful of early Escorts came in this shade, which is why

Adam fondly calls it the Green Goddess. Then there’s the build, which features a 200 bhp C20XE engine, period split-rims and suspension and brakes more at home on a rally car. Last comes the fact the car was built to fulfil a promise that meant he has now given it away!
