CONTE VISTARINO’S OLTREPO PAVESE PINOTS

JAMES BUTTON

I first came across Conte Vistarino during a tasting event in London and was impressed enough that I made a point ofand demonstrate the impact of terroir on Pinot Nero – the three sites are located in an amphitheatre of vineyards, each with its own unique exposition and altitude, ranging from 250m-500m altitude. Ottavia explained that there can be an 18°-20°C difference between day- and night-time temperatures, which is vital for capturing both freshness and ripeness. The three Pinots are all vinified in wooden vats and matured for 12 months in French oak barriques then 12 months in bottle.
