A CHILDHOOD DREAM

This story started way back. As you may remember from the July issue, I've had hundreds of cars over the years. There have been a few four door saloons, but not many, and in all those years just the one convertible – aMk3 Escort many years ago. Mainly they have been two-door cars as I tend to prefer coupés and the muscle car look.

The Dodge Charger came about because, like many guys my age, I had a thing for TV's Dukes of Hazzard. Daisy Duke was obviously one attraction, but I have been into cars since I was a little kid and hand on heart it was really the Dodge Charger that did it for me. I had the models, the Scalextric cars, everything. I remember making a model of Sheriff Roscoe's Dodge Monaco police car to chase the toy Chargers, and setting that on fire in the front room just to mangle it up a bit. Mum was not impressed when she walked in and caught me doing that; I got into severe trouble at the time, and she still talks about it today.

It was not an obsession I grew out of as I got older. We have two boys of our own and I wanted to call them Bo and Luke. My wife agreed to Luke, but didn't like the sound of Bo, put her foot down
