My Dad was one of my biggest fans and he supported my artwork in many ways. He watched me paint and he designed a watercolour palette which he made for me. When I did the ‘Emotional Navigation’ series, the palette still had some leftover paint from the last watercolours that I had painted with him sitting beside me. I couldn’t bear yet to disturb the palette or the memories. I squeezed more paint onto lids and saucers. The upside was that it made it easy to throw and dripple paint onto the works, which brought with it a freedom. I learned to stand by with paper towel, to mop up any runoff watercolour paint (as some colours can leave a stain on the surrounds). A couple of the artworks have the effect of throwing the actual wet paper towel back onto the watercolour paper as well.
