YOUTH WORK WARGAMING

Often the motive behind such a game is to bring friends into a new game we’ve really taken to, or it could be part of a wider ‘games day’ associated with a rules producer where some of the players may notnbe as au fait with things as you’d normally expect. Teaching games are everywhere.

That doesn’t mean that teaching games are always a fun experience, though. As we’ve likely all taken part in a teaching game, I’d bet we’ve all also taken part in at least one teaching game that wasn’t an enjoyable experience, and historical gamers being the polite type I’d bet we all saw that less-than-fun game out to the bitter end, too! There are plenty of reasons why it might not have been a pleasurable experience, but I’m not keen on pointing out the flaws at one of these games; someone taking the time to prepare and making the effort to show us the ropes is a generous act and something to be applauded.
