We are now well into the season and, for many of us, shoot days are coming thick and fast. All of the training I have discussed recently has been geared towards working your dog on a shoot day. However, it occurred to me recently that there is a great deal of training that needs to be done which may not be so obvious.
A lot of it is linked to etiquette and what is expected during the day. Training a dog to hunt and retrieve comes relatively easy for a dog that already has a massive desire to do so. But training them not to do those things and fight their natural urges is much harder. The following aspects I am going to cover are all things I have seen time and time again which, if trained correctly, would make for a much nicer day for handler
