As technology advances, we are increasingly being bombarded by spam emails, texts and phone calls, many of which are scams. But although some are identifiable by spelling mistakes and suspicious email addresses, scams are getting more sophisticated.
According to the Office of National Statistics, fraud offences have risen by 25% in the last two years, while computer crimes, such as hacking, have risen by 89%.
And it seems women aged 45 to 54 are more likely to fall victim to fraud than any other age group, due to a combination of tech naivety compared with younger women and a higher propensity to shop online compared with older women.
