Don’t feed the trolls

It probably comes as no surprise that a recent study in the Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly found female journalists not only receive more sexual harassment than their male co-workers, but more overall harassment from viewers, readers and strangers online.

The study, which interviewed 32 print and broadcast journalists in the US, reported that while male journalists see threats of violence as “a badge of honour”, female journalists view the unprecedented levels of harassment as “the price you pay” for doing their job.
