hen our beaver season finally opened where I trap, I had no choice but to set traps right away in a series of beaver colonies established at roadside or worse yet — right in the middle of four-wheeler trails that provide access to key hunting areas. People visit this place to hunt white-tailed deer, and the beavers are seen as a nuisance, even when they set up in the middle of nowhere. I have trapped this property for more than 10 years now, and every year I “negotiate” with the land and roads managers to wait for opening day of trapping season.
