The Leica Q2 has been around for a few years now, but I’ve been testing it over the last couple of months to see if it lives up to its hype. Frequently featured in roundups of the best compact cameras on the market, the Q2 is a full frame camera wrapped in a tiny body. It’s certainly been a game changer, but can it justify its price tag of $5686 / £4920?

The Q2 (Type 4889) is the replacement for Leica’s hugely successful Q (Type 116) camera. Both are full frame compact cameras, but the original Q ‘only’ had a 24.2mp sensor, whereas the Q2 has a 47.3mp effective sensor. Leica have modelled the Q2 to look a little bit like a smaller version of their famous M rangefinder cameras and you’ll find traditional exposure controls on both the camera body and lens.
