A SAFE SPACE

THE internet is a wonderful place. But it can also be a scary one – especially for parents who feel as if they don’t know how to help their kids navigate cyberspace and understand its dangers. Enter Fareedah Shaheed, a 25-year-old internet-safety expert who’s made it her mission to help parents keep their kids safe online.

“My interest in online safety was sparked when I realised it’s more about psychology than technology,” she says.

Online safety for kids should focus on connection over controls, she says. “While parental controls and monitoring have a place, that shouldn’t be the focus. The focus should be building a connection with your children.”
