Richard Batterham (1936-2021) was one of Britain’s leading throwers of stoneware pottery inexperiments with porcelain, and he kept an example of each firing for future reference. His work is rarely signed but immediately identifiable, simply decorated with cut sides or bands of chattering patterns (triangular-shaped incisions). Currently, his work is extremely affordable for studio pottery of this calibre at a recent Woolley & Wallis Design sale we sold a large stoneware mixing bowl for £364, a cut-sided teapot for £455, and a tea caddy for £494. Expect to pay more for sought-after bottles - from £1,000, depending on size and decoration.
