Bowelling, a rural community in southwest WA on the edge of what is now the Muja State Forest, began as a junction and signals exchange for the state railway. Two sawmills cut jarrah for sleepers well into the 20th century.
It’s not an unlikely place for Robert Turner to retire to. He grew up around engineering and woodwork shops and became a coachbuilder, working on buses and, later, caravans.
These days he pursues hobbies that reflect his upbringing and working life: vintage cars and old radios. He and daughter Karen produce artworks made from antique machinery sourced from Kalgoorlie’s historic Goldfields pipeline.
