This year’s event was different like no other. Firstly, the event hosted the opening round of the FIA ETCR – eTouring Car World Cup. The 100% electric car race was powered by hydrogen supplied by the city of Pau and generated by Hyundai’s HTWO Hydrogen fuel cell generator.
Secondly, for the World Touring Cup, French Formula 4 and other categories competing there was a major shift. The racing teams were asked to ‘green’ the races. The time for sustainable low-carbon fuels had arrived with a coordinated effort between the festival organisers, racing teams, fuel companies and new sponsors, which all shared the same passion to create a stage for the public to see sustainable low-carbon fuels in action. And this year’s festival attracted more than 100,000 spectators.
A FESTIVAL OF ‘GREEN’ ENERGY
The recent pandemic halting sporting events gave the organisers time to redesign the concept of the races and to shape a new festival. A one-day, high-level European forum titled ‘The Transition in Our Mobilities’ was held on 6 May
