After starting a family, Kat Wagstaff wanted to move closer to her mum, so she and her husband, Ian, began looking at properties nearby. ‘To be honest, this was the worst house in the best area, so, although we could just afford it, we knew it would be a project,’ she says. ‘The house needed a lot of love, as sadly all the original features had been stripped out and the tiny kitchen wasn’t family-friendly - it couldn’t even fit all of us In it.’ As every room needed renovating, ‘it actually felt like a blank canvas where I could simply start again,’ explains Kat. ‘Although I know “renovation fatigue” is a real thing, so we made sure not to start too many projects at once.’
