BUYER’S GUIDE TRAIL SHOES

KIT ZONE MEN'S TRAIL SHOES WOMEN'S TRAIL SHOES

The road may rule triathlon in summer, but when autumn arrives there’s a wealth of opportunities to slip into a pair of trail running shoes for both racing and training and the benefits are well documented. Of course, you can try and run in your road shoes, but there are subtle (and not so subtle) feature differences - grip, toe bumpers, support - that make off-road running in off-toad run shoes a more enjoyable and productive experience. In simple terms, off-road running shoes are designed to cope with every type of terrain thrown at them, whether it be mud, hills, gravel or grass.

Just remember, always aim to try the shoes before you buy to make sure they suit your feet, and look for potential areas where rubbing may occur. Now, let’s get on with the testing…

MEN'S

SAUCONY ENDORPHIN EDGE

If pink isn’t for you, don’t worry, as the Endorphin Edge also comes in blue. One thing you can’t avoid here, however, is the price. At £200 it’s a big investment, but that’s typical of a shoe with a carbon fibre plate. That nifty bit of tech works with the PWRRUN PB foam cushioning to deliver a super-responsive, propulsive and smooth ride. If you like tofaltering in seriously boggy conditions. The Edge also gets bonus points for being gaiter compatible and using recycled materials.
