I found your feature on Chris Killip (Killip Unpacked, 29 November) very poignant. In 1988 I purchased his book In Flagrante. Within his essay in the book John Berger writes, ‘Since Mrs Thatcher was first voted into office the number of people living below the official poverty line has doubled. They now number about 12 million. By contrast, during the last four years, the number of millionaires has risen from 7,000 to 20,000. In the North-East it is estimated that there are 1,500 deaths a year due to exposure or starvation.’
