In 1982 I joined Dorset scooter club the Modrapheniacs. I started out doing the Sunday runs and rideouts which were always well attended and a good laugh, but hadn’t yet cut my teeth on a long-distance rally. The Modrapheniacs’ No1, Phil Birch, was planning on doing the Skegness rally with Eddie Hawkins and Ross from Weymouth.
