'THE year 2020 got off to a running start. My son, Zac Steyn, was in matric and my work as a freelance journalist kept me busy. Then two things happened in the first few months of the year – things that seemingly had nothing to do with each other but kind of did. I switched medical aids from one that’s since been declared bankrupt and joined Momentum Health, hoping nothing serious would happen during the three-month waiting period.
Then the pandemic bomb burst in March 2020. Somewhere in between helping my son cope with matric, my work and keeping us safe and healthy, I realised it was time for a mammogram.
But we were mostly in lockdown and I got to it only in September.
