Tired of our busy London life and looking for a new adventure, my husband Johan and I decided to relocate to the coastal town of Margate back in 2015,’ says Carey. ‘At the time, we wanted to get on the property ladder, which was something we couldn’t afford to do in London. We had friends who lived in Margate and we really enjoyed our visits to the seaside town, with its inspiring views, sandy beaches and the artisan vibe… There’s something extremely special about Margate; it has an energy you can’t help falling in love with.
At the time, we had a five-year plan, part of which was making sure we had a very low mortgage, giving us the freedom to explore other opportunities. Property in Margate was much cheaper than London, but we still thought
