Director Neil Marshall rose to fame with and . After TV success () but movie missteps (2019's ), he goes back to basics with his hit-and-miss latest. It's set in Afghanistan, where bloodthirsty underground creatures set upon a mixed gang of British and American squaddies led by RAF pilot Kate (played by co-writer Charlotte Kirk). The try-hard dialogue often grates and the lead performance is stiff and unexciting, but the good news is that the action and splatter are up there with Marshall's best.
