THE MYSTERY BULB

Though its common name comes from the German words for cabbage and turnip, kohlrabi isn’t exactly either. And, despite its bulbous bottom, neither is it a root vegetable.

So what is it? Well, it’s actually a brassica and a cultivar of wild cabbage, which puts it in the same species as cabbage, kale and cauliflower and the same genus as turnip.
