LETTER OF THE MONTH
Dear John,
Mark (Issue 630 Postbag) makes a really good point about delays in caravan delivery, and as one who really does feel his pain (we have been through it to the point of giving up waiting) felt it was worth noting where the real problem lies.
The real problem is in the contract which the dealer presents to the buyer with two options; take it or leave it. The dealer walks away with their deposit (in our case $10k) which goes into their business to keep them afloat, and the buyer has an estimate of delivery time which will never be achieved.
The only out a buyer has is when the dealer requests a price increase. So, the dealer can keep stringing the poor buyer on and on with no penalty, provided they don’t ask for a price increase. Many dealers won’t ask for a price increase on contracted
