Severn Valley cutbacks as cost s soar and visitor numbers drop

SEVERNValley Railway services are being cut and voluntary redundancies made in a bid to address soaring operating costs and falling passenger numbers.

The measures responding to a fall in income are being implemented after a statement to staff and working members on January 12 announced plans to tackle the financial challenges of 2023.

It said that“tourist attractions across the UK continue to be impacted by up to 30% drops in visitor numbers since Covid and this has been made worse by the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. The SVR is taking pro-active action to protect its business and ensure it comes through to thrive in the future.

“The unjust war in Ukraine has impacted on the cost of coal and utilities, with prices rocketing.”

Cost-cutting measures were worked on by managing director Helen Smith much earlier,
