SPORT HORSE BREEDING SPECIAL PART 1
WHEN John Whitaker crossed top international showjumping stallion Ublesco with a jumping-bred mare named Viva, he wouldn't have been wrong for assuming the offspring's forte would likely be over coloured fences. However, when Louise Bell was on the hunt for a working hunter in 2009, John let his home-bred Into The Blue (Dynamo) move on and eventually hit the heights in the show ring, before foraying into grand prix dressage.
“Into The Blue could definitely jump, though I don't think Louise or I had planned for his dressage career,” says John.
Dynamo and Louise first met when the roan gelding was a gangly three-yearold, but Louise had full confidence in his potential, as she'd previously found favour on Dynamo's cousin, the late Man On Fire, who was also bred by John.
