HIGH ADVENTURE!

The monks in the temple were chanting, blowing horns and banging cymbals. The noise echoed down the valley.

Behind the temple, Pasang could see mountains reaching towards the sky. He knew their names by heart: Tawache, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. The greatest of them all was Sagarmatha, which foreigners called Mount Everest.

Far below, he could see a group of people coming up the rocky track to the village. The path was marked with brightly coloured prayer flags, which were said to bring blessings of peace to the world.

The people on the path were tourists from other countries. Visitors almost always stopped at his mum and dad’s teahouse
