Growing from seed is an economical and endlessly fascinating way to grow your own food. There's something magical about sowing tiny seeds and nurturing them as they sprout, watching the transformation into food we can eat or flowers for the bees. It is a wonderful connection with the rhythms of the year.

In order to grow into healthy plants, seeds need light, water, oxygen, the right temperature for the type of seed and a medium to grow in, usually compost or soil.

Spring weather is erratic. Periods of warm sunny weather can quickly change to low temperatures with frost and even snow. Propagation equipment which helps to protect seedlings and young plants from extremes of weather is vital for extending the growing season.
