TIP OF THE FORTNIGHT

Play podcasts on your smart speaker

I had dismissed smart speakers like Amazon’s Echo as pointless gimmicks until my son bought me one for Christmas (the 2022 version of the Echo Dot from www.snipca.com/45105, pictured). I knew you could listen to music and radio on it, but I didn’t realise you could also play podcasts. I now listen to new podcasts every day.

Some of the podcasts are free on Amazon Music, which is built into the Echo. But I prefer Spotify, so I linked it to the Echo by opening the Alexa app on my phone or tablet, then tapping the More icon in the bottom toolbar. I then tapped Settings, followed by ‘Music & Podcasts’, then Link New Service.

I then tapped ‘Enable to Use’ (see screenshot), followed byvoice commands are simple too – just say “Alexa, play (podcast name) on (service)”. You can also pause, fast-forward and rewind using your voice – see more commands at .
