Cage & Aviary Birds

Promising times in prospect

BENGALESE

AS I write this article it’s mid-February. I am now three months into my main breeding season and I am looking to change some of my Bengalese breeding pairs, replacing under-performing couples with younger pairs.

In recent years, I have been developing additional varieties and in consequence have reduced the number kept in each of my long-established colours. Although quality is always a key factor for deciding which birds to retain, I am now giving more emphasis towards achieving a lower average age. The main exceptions, in terms of numbers, are my pink-eyed whites (albinos),for any show. Any feather blemishes are normally more evident on albinos than any other colour, including dark-eyed whites.
