Pick Me Up!

A HELPING HAND

Watching the cars race around the track, I inhaled the familiar scent of diesel.

At 14, I loved going to watch stock car banger racing.

And every week I always saw the familiar green uniforms of the St John Ambulance crew helping out any injured drivers and always providing a friendly presence.

I’d like to do that, I always thought. It looks like fun.
