Juddery start

Around a year ago I bought a 1975 Mini. Although I have not used it a great deal it has driven well until recently. Now when I pull away there is a noticeable judder which seems to be getting worse. It started as a slight shake but feels and sounds a bit like a machine gun at times now. If I slip the clutch, it is sometimes possible to smooth the take-off slightly but, at other times, it just makes things worse. The same thing occurs in reverse, although to a lesser extent. What is your opinion as to the probable cause? Could it be a clutch issue or a loose engine mount?

As you rightly suggest there are two usual causes of judder when pulling away in first or reverse gear. They are a fault with the clutch plate/pressure plate/flywheel assembly or
