In scenes reminiscent of the crowds that would cheer his mother the Queen when she appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony, the King was greeted by a sea of well-wishers at Hamburg City Hall for the last day of the state visit.
With the Queen Consort by his side, His Majesty received a rousing reception as he stepped onto the balcony to wave to the crowd – which was estimated to be more than 5,000 strong – braving the rain.
