WANGARI MAATHAI
Maathai was the first woman in East and Central Africa to earn a PhD, and the first African woman to win the her life is chronicled, from her childhood in colonial Kenya to her stint in academia, and her later life as an environmental and political activist. She would become most famous for the latter, and was key in both the fight to save green spaces in Nairobi and the struggle for democracy in Kenya.
