A large percentage of the Volkswagen toys and model cars produced in the 1950s and ‘60s were manufactured in Europe because of the realsize VW being produced in Germany. Well, this month’s feature has the spotlight on a tinplate VW produced in Japan. Over the years, I have seen the rising prices of Japanese tinplate cars of the 1950s and ‘60s. These cars are not only desirable to VW model collectors but also to collectors of Japanese tin toy cars in general. The year of manufacture, size, color, basic quality, condition and scarcity is the basis that allows these toy cars to command the high-price tags.
