POETS & WRITERS MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES application information for writers conferences, literary festivals, and residencies of interest to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators. Applications for the following events are due shortly. Conferences and festivals with rolling, first-come, first-served admission are listed well in advance. Some accept registration on the date of the event. Contact the sponsoring organization for an application and complete guidelines. When requesting information by mail, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE). All accessibility information has been provided by the sponsoring organizations.

Biographers International Organization Conference

The 2023 Biographers International Organization (BIO) Conference will be held from May 19 to May 21 at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in New York City as well as online. The conference features panels on current issues in biography and the craft of biography, including discussions on biography in conflict, archival research, crafting proposals, biography and the law, documentary films, and graphic biographies. The presenters include biographers Kai Bird, Blanche Wiesen Cook, Ruth Franklin, Beverly Gage, Holly George-Warren, and David Maraniss. Biographer Kitty Kelley will deliver the keynote address. The cost to attend the conference in person is $345 ($295 for BIO members); the cost for online registration is $99 ($49 for BIO members). Registration is rolling through May 19. Buinho Creative Hub Residencies

Buinho Creative Hub offers residencies of two weeks to three months year-round to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in the historic town of Messejana, Portugal. Residents are provided with private lodging and shared work space in one of three traditional Portuguese houses. The cost of the residency is €750 to €900 (approximately $804 to $964) per month depending on the room; transportation and meals are not included. E-mail up to 20 pages of poetry or prose, a letter of intent, a project proposal, and a curriculum vitae. There is no application fee. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Cambridge Writers’ Workshop Paris Writing Retreat

The Cambridge Writers’ Workshop Paris Writing Retreat will be held from July 19 to July 25 in the historic Montparnasse neighborhood of Paris. The retreat features writing and publishing workshops, craft seminars, and generative writing sessions for poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers. The faculty includes poets and prose writers Rita Banerjee and Diana Norma Szokolyai. The cost of the retreat is $4,500, which includes tuition, lodging at the Hôtel du Midi Paris Montparnasse, daily breakfast, special meals, and a trip to Versailles.
