Auction Week in and around Scottsdale, Arizona, is best described as a carefully scheduled collector car cornucopia. Now, bolstered by a concours d’elegance, a cruise-in, and a “next-gen”-style car show, attendees can easily spend a week scooting from one event to the next with little fear of missing something big somewhere. Something big, in fact, was a regularity in January.
Case in point: RM Sotheby’s annual launch of its American auction schedule at its traditional stomping grounds — the Arizona Biltmore — on January 26, which was preceded by a full day of preview hours. This year, the Canadian-based company upped the offerings from 78 to 93 lots, of which all but four were exemplary, historic, or exceptionally preserved vehicles from around the world. Whether you prefer Full Classics, sports cars, muscle cars, or boulevard cruisers, RM ensured there was something to satisfy everyone’s ownership desires.
When it came time to open the auction block for business, though, it became apparent that Europe’s premium sports and exotic cars were in high demand.
