RESIDENTS in the DA-led uMngeni Municipality have lamented the ANC’s proposed move to merge it with the Mpofana and Impendle municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal.
The ANC is trying to do this through the municipal demarcation board, an independent body that determines the boundaries of municipalities in South Africa.
The latter two municipalities are governed by the ANC and are neighbours to the uMngeni Municipality, which has 120 000 residents, making it a small municipality.
Should all three municipalities be merged into one, it would mean the ANC would be in charge of a bigger municipality in the region.
