Alienware m18 R1

PRICE From £1,916 (£2,299 inc VAT) from dell.co.uk

Gaming laptops with an 18in screen are in vogue this season, with the Alienware m18 joining Asus’ ROG Strix Scar 18 (see issue 344, p54) and the Razer Blade 18 (see issue 343, p52). The m18 is the chunkiest of the lot, weighing 4kg to 3.1kg for both its rivals, while a jutting-out rear and glowing RGB alien head on the lid betray its gaming leanings.

You can choose between two IPS panels: 2,560 x 1,600 with a 165Hz and DCI-P3 coverage at a shade under 80%. Nothing special, but their matte finish dampened reflections well.
