TIMELINE THE BRITISH IN PALESTINE

2 November 1917

The Balfour Declaration, a letter from Britain’s foreign secretary, AJ Balfour, vaguely declares support for a Jewish “home” in Palestine. British troops soon oust Ottoman forces from the region, and on 11 December, General Edmund Allenby enters, marking the start of British administration.
