Although Pythagoras is one of the most famous of the ancient Greeks, experts have very few specific facts about the man behind the name. He lived in the 500s BC. He was a cult leader, and he lent his name to the theorem (A + B = C) that makes it possible to calculate the length of the sides of a right-angled triangle. But he was almost certainly not the theorem’s creator.
